Oh, Jimmy Fallon. Your weekly Twitter hashtag game is so amusing. I look forward to them every week and wonder, what hilarious thing will someone share now? Are these authentic confessions being revealed, or are people just totally inventing them in hopes of being featured on The Tonight Show?  It doesn’t really matter. Because every week, people engage. People share the hashtag and play the game. And every week, Jimmy Fallon gets material to share on the show.

As usual, the engagement on Twitter was quite prolific. Last week’s hashtag game, #FallSongs, received 57k Tweets. This week’s hashtaggame, #ThatWasStupid, received 14k mentions in the last 24 hours.

Brands would be smart to get behind this titillating Twitter tactic. If a brand doesn’t have enough clout (Klout?) to start their own game, then they should hijack Jimmy Fallon’s hashtag game and join in. Witty responses are heavily retweeted and who knows, you just might gain some new followers from this venture. And, if you’re a brand that is ignoring successful Twitter tactics like these?  #ThatWasStupid
