Snapchat for business … and now for job applications.
Sober Lane, an Irish pub in Cork, Ireland, will open a new location in Dublin on July 16th and is currently accepting applications via Snapchat. Since Friday, more than 2,000 snaps have been sent to the person in charge of hiring.
To single out the most creative and innovative applicants, the bar has asked candidates to “forget discretion” when using the social media platform for the job application process.
Sober Lane owner Ernest Cantillon discussed the reasoning behind the decision with the Examiner.
“First impressions are everything in our game. Sober Lane Cork is quirky and different. It’s all about fun, and it’s driven by our staff, who pick the music, and we don’t do uniforms,” Cantillon said to the Examiner. “If someone has a good personality, it will come across on Snapchat and we’ll offer them a job or invite them in for a chat. If they have the right personality, we can teach them the skills they’ll need to work with us.”
Not only is this a cool way for Cantillon to sort through applicants, it also sounds like a really fun way to apply for a job. It sure beats the pen and paper application process! Who knows, maybe this will help beat those unemployment blues…
