Each morning, I log in to Feedly to keep up with current news in the social media and digital world. If you’re not familiar with the service, it allows you to aggregate content from all across the web.  However, this morning, Feedly wouldn’t load.

The rest of the Internet seemed to be working just fine, so I mosied on over to Twitter to see what people were saying with the hashtag #Feedly. Here’s what I saw:

… and then I saw Feedly’s tweets:

So, basically, here’s what’s going on: Feedly is under a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. What this means is that criminals have taken over Feedly and aren’t allowing it to work until they are paid money.  Feedly has been kidnapped, so to speak. And the kidnappers are demanding a ransom.

On their blog today, Feedly said, “The attacker is trying to extort us money to make it stop. We refused to give in and are working with our network providers to mitigate the attack as best as we can.”

Keep up the fight, Feedly! And hurry back.
