The rumors have started. YouTube might be in talks to purchase Twitch. According to a Variety Report, YouTube may have offered more than $1 billion. This is a big move for YouTube and Twitch.

The San Francisco-based Twitch is a video platform and community for more than 45 million gamers to gather every month, upload and watch live gameplay streamed from various gaming platforms. It also broadcasts all the biggest eSports events worldwide. The site offers monthly subscriptions and individual channel subscriptions for varying fees.

It will be interesting to see if this merger will cause any red flags. Both companies pretty much have the monopoly in their field and bringing them together may make the online video space less-competitive… which might mean higher prices for the average user. On the other hand, this is a chance for both YouTube and Twitch to expand and it opens the door for more exciting possibilities. Twitch has a huge following and fan base that is invested in the outcome. Let’s hope this works out for the best, for the consumers that is!
