Well, it was only a matter of time before advertising made its way into space. We see advertising everywhere, from movies and TV to cars and little league uniforms … and now it can be seen on the moon.
Which company is setting the out-of-this-world record? My first guess would be McDonalds or Walmart (they are everywhere). Or I might guess Red Bull or Virgin Airlines (they both seem like interstellar brands). But, no. This dubious achievement goes to Japanese Company Otsuka, which makes Pocari Sweat, an energy drink.
Otsuka is sending a can of Pocari Sweat in the form of a time capsule … to the moon.
This lunar billboard will contain the powder-form of Pocari Sweat and messages from Asian children.
Surely this stunt is more about impressing Earthlings than about truly advertising on the moon. Do you think this will impress alien species or future generations who colonize the moon? Do you think lunar advertising is a good idea? Perhaps the brand that does end up advertising on the moon should be a brand that is a more representative of humans as a whole?
Which brands would you like to see on the moon? Coca-Cola? Nike? Apple? Google?
