It’s prime planting season, and the New York Restoration Project (NYRP) implemented a new ad campaign encouraging New Yorkers to plant trees. NYRP’s MillionTreesNYC Project integrates social media by daring New Yorkers to take a photo of something in the city that is clearly not a tree (which seems to be just about everything), then give the photo the hashtag #NotATree on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook and tag @NYRP.
The campaign also includes traditional media such as TV ads, radio, print and billboards – And physical tags around the city that say, “There aren’t enough trees in the city. Let’s change that.” The tags also list the website NotATree.org.
“Yes, a Tree” tags will be put on the planted saplings with the message “Thank you. This is exactly what our city needs.”
The goal is to plant one million new trees by 2017.
