Samsung releases exclusive LeBron James application

LeBron finally won his rings and now he has…an app?

That’s right. Apparently that’s the next step after attaining credibility in the NBA.

If you own a Samsung device and are irrationally obsessed with someone who dubbed himself “The King”, you can – for lack of a better word – stalk Mr. James 24/7 during the playoffs (who famously shuts down all personal social media accounts during the post-season).  This includes a sneak peek into workouts as well as his daily life.

Raise your hand if this sounds appealing?

I saw an ad for the app during the Spurs vs. Dallas series (#MFFLStrong) and I couldn’t believe my eyes. So many questions rushed through my mind. Who? What? When? Why? How? – My journalism roots run deep apparently.

I’ve followed the NBA since I was in the 5th grade and I’ve always had distaste for LeBron.  I loved the jokes that followed his failed attempts at the trophy.

“LeBron’s phone is always on silent…because he doesn’t have a ring.”

“Why couldn’t LeBron have a shot with Beyonce? Because he couldn’t put a ring on it.”

“I asked LeBron for change for a dollar, but he only gave me 75 cents. When I asked why he said he didn’t have a fourth quarter.”

This is mostly because I am a die-hard Mavs fan; just as many other people are huge fans of other teams. LeBron is a talented player (he said so himself) but a lot of people don’t like him (gasp!) because he beats the teams they love so dearly.

It’s clear that LeBron has a following (12.7 million Twitter followers!), but is that enough people to validate an application devoted entirely to him?

Is this just a sign of the times though? Are we migrating to full-on stalker mode of all our favorite celebs? I know a few people who would download a Kate Middleton or Kim Kardashian app. The possibilities would be endless.
