Did you know that bananas are trending in social media this week?
Here’s why: On Sunday, during Barcelona vs. Villarreal’s soccer match, a fan threw a banana at Barcelona’s player Dani Alves. Before taking the corner shot, he picked up the banana, peeled it and took a bite, and then continued with the game. It was a quick-witted, humorous response to a racist, rude action.
Here’s Dani Alves’ Instagram video of the event:
Meu pai sempre me falava: filho come banana que evita cãibra rsrs, como adivinharam isso? hahaha #somosmaisqueisso#ficaadica
Translation – My father always told me: Son, eat bananas, which prevent cramping. LOL, as you guessed it?
And now, friends, fans and supporters of all kinds are posting photos of themselves eating bananas all over social media. #WeAreAllMonkeys, #NoToRacism

I love it when social media is used for good and unites people of all races, ethnicities and sports persuasions to support a common cause.
