“HOLLA Dayz” is a regular series covering the best media on holidays or occasions worth talking about. Brands, people, bots – they’re all fair game. See how others are celebrating socially and what you can learn from their messages!
In a somewhat surprising twist, most national brands didn’t mention Easter on their social platforms. Perhaps they were trying to avoid alienating non-Christian customers with a religious message, but these brands really only hurt themselves – they came across irrelevant and out of touch. The big brand winners were those willing to risk a bit of backlash for a timely tweet.

Best Easter HOLLA: AT&T. In terms of creating a relevant social media presence, this tweet was timely AND asked for audience participation, increasing engagement for the brand. Well done, AT&T!

Of course, April 20 is 4/20, also known as “Pot Day” or “Weed Day” to many. According to a wayvs expert, 4/20 celebrations originated because 4:20 p.m. was the time kids would get out of class and go behind the dumpsters to light up. Personal opinions and pot stigmas aside, we can all agree the Internet had a lot of funny things to say about the unofficial holiday.
The blazers won on 4/20

4/20? You mean 1/5 reduce your fractions did you even learn math
— tina (@itstinatbh) April 21, 2014
For all you stoners on 4/20: no need to be alarmed. You are indeed seeing giant bunnies everywhere.
— Brett Erlich (@bretterlich) April 21, 2014
Andrew Brandt, sports columnist for ESPN and Sports Illustrated, joked about the ramifications of 4/20 – at least, we hope it’s a joke for the sake of the players.
To those who asked (including players), the NFL now begins its offseason drug-testing program. Yes, it started yesterday on 4/20.
— Andrew Brandt (@adbrandt) April 21, 2014
Here at wayvs, we were curious how brands in the food services industry would market their products on the particularly festive holiday (munchies, anyone?). While some addressed 4/20 head on, others played coy but still managed to get their tasty treats out there for hungry customers to notice.

Did Taco Bell try to get in on the 4/20 action? You decide based on this cryptic tweet.
Best 4/20 HOLLA: Ben & Jerry’s. The play on the word “baked” with a brand product is perfect, not to mention the timing of the tweet: 4:20 p.m. ET.

Celebrities are some of the biggest proponents of legalizing marijuana, and 4/20 afforded them the opportunity to show their support socially.
Of course, no conversation about cannabis would be complete without the smoke master himself, Snoop Dogg:

The Fake CNN continued the 4/20 fun today:
Confused potheads still unsure it's not 4/20.

But the best celebrations of April 20 – whether you considered it Easter or 4/20 – were accomplished by those who combined the two holidays into one. For example:
if easter and 4/20 are both today can it be called a joint holiday
