Ellen DeGeneres took the most epic selfie of all time last night at the Oscars.
(On second thought, it was so much more than a selfie. Let me rephrase…)
Ellen DeGeneres posted the most epic tweet of all time last night at the Oscars.
(Wait, wait—that still doesn’t do it justice. Let’s try this one more time…)
Ellen DeGeneres tweeted the most epic social media post of all time last night at the Oscars.
(Still not sure that conveys the sheer epic-ness of it all—but close enough.)
The now world-famous tweet, a photo of Ellen with Hollywood’s elite at the awards show, has been retweeted over 2.6 million times (at the time of writing) in less than 24 hours. It also has over 1.3 million favorites and counting.
Just to put that into perspective, Ellen’s tweet outdid the likes of celebrities such as Jay-Z and Beyonce, Katy Perry (the most followed person on Twitter), and even President Barack Obama, who previously held the record for the most retweets after winning the 2012 election and tweeting “Four more years.”

Ellen is also reaping the rewards of the viral selfie, with the Twitter blog reporting that since she posted the photo last night, she has gained a whopping 1 million+ new followers. That’s more than 47x her normal daily rate of follower growth.
So what exactly made the selfie so epic? In case you’ve been living under a rock, take a look for yourself:

That is one star-studded lineup! Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Bradley Cooper, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Lupita Nyong’o and more flashed their pearly whites for the photo with Ellen.
If you ever happen to take a photo with an A-list celebrity, it is a lucky moment to say the least, which makes Ellen’s photo that much more monumental. A photo with Brad Pitt? Pssh, Ellen has Brad x20!
The famous selfie also “broke Twitter,” as the server was not able to handle all the traffic and the site went down temporarily, which Ellen announced later in the broadcast.
A photo with THAT lineup AND the ability to break Twitter? Ellen, my dear, your power to influence never ceases to amaze me!
Who would be in your ultimate star-studded epic selfie?
