Penguins are aquatic, flightless birds that live almost exclusively in the southern hemisphere and spend half their lives on land and half in the oceans.

To some people, January 1, 2012, was just another ordinary day. A day to be excited about nothing, to think about nothing, and to dream about nothing; and to the people who had that experience, I wonder and ask why?

Last year I moved to a different state, said goodbye to an old animal friend, started a new job, became reacquainted with old friends, and lost someone very important to me. It was definitely a year of many different levels. Some levels were high, others were very low, but every year will have its levels, and there is no questioning that.

What do I mean by “levels”?

Levels are what make up your life. It doesn’t matter if you’re happy or sad, excited or depressed, strong or weak – your physical, mental, and emotional levels are constantly changing. And that is exactly why new beginnings are good for everyone – absolutely everyone.

Now some people start out the New Year and say, I don’t do resolutions, I’m fine with how I am, I don’t need to change or improve anything in my life, resolutions are for people who have problems, and so on and so forth.

Don’t make me laugh.

People without resolutions are people who do not dream. Can you honestly tell me there isn’t anything in your life that you wouldn’t want to change or improve, or rather, that you do not dream?

If you think that resolutions are only for problems, then don’t create resolutions – instead, create a revolution. By definition, a revolution is a fundamental change in power or organizational structure that takes place in a relatively short period of time. Isn’t there something you can think of that you could change or improve in the structure of your life?

Some people want to exercise more; others want to become closer to their families. Some companies want to decrease their marketing costs and expenses; others want to increase their social media presence and revenues. Some people want to find who they really are; others want to rediscover who they once were. Some people don’t understand freedom; others just want to be free.

I know I have several things in my life I would like to change; some big, some small, but all can be changed with the right power and motivation.

My personal revolution began January 1, 2012. Go ahead and laugh all you want; I don’t really care. What I do care about is dreaming… and more importantly, dreaming big and making sure my dreams come true.

At the end of the day, all you have to do is ask yourself one question: what would you rather be – an aquatic bird that knows it will always be flightless, or a penguin that dreams of the day it will fly?
