Airbnb, the popular app for finding places to stay around the world, has redesigned its logo — and its entire user experience. The new website and mobile look has been created to reflect the feedback from fans of the service. A strong sense of community and connection can be seen on each page of the new site.
The new logo is a symbolic design, resembling the letter A, called a Bélo.
Airbnb explains on their blog,
“Belonging has always been a fundamental driver of humankind. So to represent that feeling, we’ve created a symbol for us as a community. It’s an iconic mark for our windows, our doors, and our shared values. It’s a symbol that, like us, can belong wherever it happens to be.
It’s a symbol for people who want to try a new tea they’ve never heard of from a village they couldn’t find on the map. It’s a symbol for going where the locals go—the cafe that doesn’t bother with a menu, the dance club hidden down a long alleyway, the art galleries that don’t show up in the guidebooks. It’s a symbol for people who want to welcome into their home new experiences, new cultures, and new conversations.
We’re proud to introduce the Bélo: the universal symbol of belonging.”
To remain as a company of individuals, Airbnb is inviting everyone to create their own unique Bélo and use it under the Airbnb banner. “We want you to make your own unique symbol, and we’ll help you bring your story to life with merchandise that showcases the experience you’re proud to provide,” says the company. Travelers can visit the website to create their individual Airbnb belonging logo.
Unique logos aren’t new to digital marketing, in fact, Snapchat added their Geofilters yesterday. Allowing travelers to create unique profile images is a smart move by Airbnb, as it keeps users on their website, engaging with their content, and using their services. Airbnb will stay top of mind with their users thanks to this brand makeover!
