If you’re an American, you shouldn’t need me to introduce Tim Howard.

If you’re not American, Tim Howard is the USAMNT’s goalie, our new national hero and possibly the new Secretary of Defense.

In yesterday’s World Cup game against Belgium, Howard was quite the star. He blocked 16 shots on goal and only conceded two goals; not bad when you consider that Belgium’s goalie only saved four shots and gave up one goal.  Even though the US was kicked out of the Cup, our goalie saved us from a nasty loss, and Howard’s performance was above any criticism.

Howard’s spectacular performance in the game yesterday has made him the talk of the Internet. In fact, some enterprising genius briefly updated Wikipedia to name Howard the Secretary of Defense:

Fans of the goalkeeper even started a petition to rename the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport after Howard, and another petition is in the works to officially name him the Secretary of Defense.

Sorry, Chuck Hagel.

Currently, #ThingsTimHowardCouldSave is trending on Twitter. Let’s allow the tweets to speak for themselves:

Nope, it doesn’t get any better than this.

Someone also dug up Tim Howard’s high school yearbook quote, which is all too fitting:

So, what do we think, people?

If you feel like putting your name on those petitions, you can find them here:
