Few of us are photographers, but it’s sure easy to play one on Instagram. And with the iOS app’s latest update, it’s easier still.
Instagram’s Lux feature, personified by the half-filled sun in the lower right-hand corner of the screen (upper mid-section on Androids that support it), allows users to flip the light contrast on under-exposed pics. This can bring shadowy images into the light, and whitewashed images into the shade. But one thing the feature has lacked is the option to adjust the degree of contrast. Lux was a take-it-or-leave-it option, and a great many Instagrammers chose to leave it, often finding the contrast too loud and grating.
Today’s update addresses those concerns. With a scale sliding from hollow sun to full sun, you can now pick whatever degree of contrast fits your blossoming and quixotic photographer aspirations. How grand!
