Earlier this month, Amazon announced it would be partnering with FreeWheel to build a video advertising platform for Amazon.com. This is kind of a big deal, because Amazon has been notoriously mums-the-word on its advertising business up until now, and this puts a big spotlight on their intentions.
So, why video?
According to a statement released by Amazon Media Group, Lisa Utzschneider, vice president of global advertising sales, said, “Our customers love video. We’re excited to be connecting customers and advertisers through our video content, in ways that help customers discover and learn about great, relevant products. We benefit from FreeWheel’s video advertising expertise as we work to provide a great customer and advertiser experience.”
Some ads are already showing up as videogame trailers. If you do a search on Amazon for “Tiger Woods Golf,” you’ll see some videos advertising the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13 video game:
The second video has a pre-roll add for Pampers, which was done by FreeWheel.
- In TV show episodes on the Kindle Fire
- In video game trailers, in the form of a “Shop Now” button
- In movie trailers, in the form of a short pre-roll
- Possible How-To videos
Amazon remains pretty tight-lipped about its advertising efforts, but we’ll let you know when we learn more!
Have you seen any video advertising on Amazon.com?
