Is your blog content uninspired? No blogger is immune to the occasional writer’s block, so when it plagues your posts, follow these pointers from OpenCa.mp – an annual open source media and blogger conference – which our team attended Aug. 28 and 29 in Addison, Texas.

In addition to offering lively discussions on the future of new media, the conference lineup was packed with top-notch talent and a wealth of information on improving your blog. Here are our top 3 takeaways on how to engage your readers with great content:

  1. Leverage your niche knowledge. Write what you know/love – your passion and expertise come through in your writing, which will engage your readers and distinguish you from other bloggers. TIP: Print magazines are an excellent example of how to gear content towards a niche audience.
  2. Respect your audience. Don’t squander people’s attention. Online audiences have a limited attention span, which means your content must be informative, entertaining and brief.
  3. Take on the titans. Examine what leading blogs or news outlets are doing online, especially what they are doing poorly, and improve it. Most likely, you are more nimble and can create well-focused content more quickly.

Did you attend OpenCa.mp? Please share your favorite pointers with us.

Special thanks to @copyblogger, @jerodmsf and @treyratcliff whose presentations inspired this post.
